Magnificent Noor Mahal

    Pakistan, as a crossroads of civilizations, has been a country where many cultures have mingled and even struggled for control. This confluence of civilizations left some incredible impressions on the region's arts, culture, and architecture. Among many such old structures and landmarks in Pakistan,  The Noor Mahal is a one of the most prominent. It is located in city of Bahawalpur, Once a historic opulent princely state of subcontinent and now located in Punjab province of Pakistan. 

 

   The magnificent palace of Noor Mahal was built in 1872 by Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan IV as a gift for his wife Noor. The palace is a beautiful example of the architectural and cultural heritage of Bahawalpur. Noor Mahal is a unique blend of Islamic, Victorian, and Greek architecture. This palace is stunning, with majestic, colorful, and beautifully painted ceilings adorned with massive chandeliers, attractively marbled, tiled floors, and large halls. It's a magnificent piece of architecture that would appeal to any history loving traveller. The palace features 32 rooms, each with its own unique design and style. It also has a beautiful courtyard, which is surrounded by gardens and fountains. The palace is built using red and blue glazed bricks, which add to its beauty and elegance.

   Noor Mahal covers 4140 square metres and was designed by the state engineer, an Englishman named Heennan in 1872 and completed in 1875, with several additions in the later years. Nawab Muhammad Bahawal Khan-V spent Rs.20,000 to build a mosque in 1906.  

     The walls of Noor Mahal are adorned with portraits of the various nawabs that ruled the state of Bahawalpur, as well as their notable achievements and other life facts engraved beneath the portraits. Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi-V, a personal friend of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and unwavering supporter of the Pakistan movement, was one of the most prominent ruler of Bahawalpur. The palace has been restored and renovated in recent years, and it is now open to the public as a museum. 

     Visitors can explore the palace's many rooms and learn about its history and significance in Bahawalpur's cultural heritage. The throne of the Nawab and the seating arrangement for those who would participate in routine proceedings are maintained and preserved at Noor Mahal, real historical black and white photographs to colored paintings from the last century are displayed to further help you imagine the court in its true setting, centuries ago.

      Even the Nawabs and his family's dressing tables, furnishings, personal items, and servants' uniforms have been maintained in their original shape. Numerous photographs are on display in the galleries, and the entire palace has the appearance of both a museum and a miniature version of Bahawalpur state. The palace also features a beautiful mosque, which is open to visitors for prayer. 

    In front of Noor Mahal, there is a well-kept park where visitors may unwind with their families. The Noor Mahal's overall magnificence was considerably enhanced in 2017 with the opening of Noor Mahal Park. The park has a jogging track, an amphitheater, a water feature with a bridge, a children's play area, and a fountain with beautiful intricate design. Also, two notable and classic cars are parked in the grounds. One of these is the Shahi Buggy, which the family of Nawab Sadiq-V utilized for transportation.  

     While it appears beautiful in the daytime, it is as spectacular and a delight for the eyes when lit up at night. The best time to visit Noor Mahal is around an hour or so before sunset because you will probably spend two hours there and then be able to watch the outside being floodlit at night. The evolution of this monument throughout the years is displayed to guests sitting on the front lawn during a night time through a beautiful light show. There are also many stores here that sell souvenirs, traditional regional artwork, and beautiful handmade items. Noor Mahal has been used as a location for many films and television shows, both in Pakistan and internationally. The palace's stunning architecture and rich history make it a popular destination for filmmakers and tourists alike.
